Wood County Sheriff's Department Discusses the Use of Naloxone
Monday, April 17th, 2023 -- 12:01 PM
While the Wood County Sheriff’s Department does not promote the use of illegal substances, we understand individuals in the community struggle with addiction issues on a daily basis.
Within a 24 hour period on Thursday of last week, Wood County Sheriff’s Department personnel as well as EMS and other Law Enforcement Partners responded to 3 overdose calls. In these calls, naloxone (NARCAN) was administered after individuals were observed to be non-responsive.
Thankful to the actions of their family and friends, as well as emergency services, those individuals received the medical care they needed to survive the Opioid overdose.
While the Wood County Sheriff’s Department is proactive in trying to reduce the distribution of illegal substances in our community and to render aid in overdose situations, they cannot always be there.
Please encourage anyone using substances to have naloxone on hand (tell someone where it is and how to use it) and create an overdose prevention plan. It is important to call 911 in case other medical issues are occurring.
Testing substances for fentanyl can help someone know whether this powerful opioid is in the drug supply and test strips can be obtained from either of these local resources.
If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, are in need of naloxone (NARCAN) or test strips, please reach out to a local recovery center or for additional resources reach out to Wood County Health Department or Three Bridges Recovery WI, Inc.
