Marshfield Common Council Approves Contract for Street Construction and More

Wednesday, April 12th, 2023 -- 1:00 PM

The Marshfield Common Council approved a contract for street reconstruction and colored crosswalk repair at their Tuesday evening meeting.

The Board approved Contract 2023-01 for Arnold Street, from Wood Avenue to St. Joseph Avenue for street reconstruction and S. Central Avenue for colored crosswalk repairs to Haas Sons, Inc. of Thorp in the amount of $725,200.06.

They further recommend that the shortfall in the Arnold Street project of $189,080.06 be funded by reducing the limits on S. Lincoln Avenue mill in place of project 14th Street to the south to address this budget shortfall. The Council also approved the asphalt paving bid of American Asphalt of Mosinee  in an amount not to exceed budgeted funding.

They also approved the proposal of MSA Professional Services, Inc. for real estate acquisition services on the Adler Road Trail extension project; approved of the proposal from Corrective Asphalt Materials for application of Reclamate asphalt rejuvenator; and approved of the proposal from American Pavement Solutions for concrete joint re-sealing.

The Council also heard an update on a land purchase of just over 33 acres by the Utilities Commission for wellhead protection at the corner of T and Y. The Council also approved a base package service with McGrath HR Group, at a cost of $26,380, that will look at changes to Marshfield’s compensation system for city employees.

The City currently uses the step system, but this would look potentially switching to a ranges system. The Board also approved setting the interest rate (5.50%) for special assessment payments and approved Josh Mauritz as the City Engineer.

The Council also approved the 2nd reading of ordinance regarding traffic laws and regulations and they approved the purchase of 500 tons of salt reserve from the state at a cost of $45,750.

Unfortunately, Marshfield has seen 42 snow/ice events, a 5-year high, so far this year that required them to go out with salt. The Council also looked at some organizational charts for different cities. The City of Marshfield is assessing who answers to who in regards to the Common Council, City Administrator, Department Heads, etc.

The Council also recognized some outgoing members.
