(Bob Hague, WRN) -Local officials are making the pitch for lawmakers to address Wisoconsin’s shared revenue formula.
Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow notes his is the state’s third largest county. “You'd think we would get a good portion of the shared revenue. Milwaukee County receives $47 million a year. La Crosse County receives $3.5 million a year. Waukesha County receives $636,000.”
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson says shared revenue from the state benefits the city - and the rest of Wisconsin. “As you all know Milwaukee is a economic engine for the state of Wisconsin. As we build on the economic strength in Milwaukee the entire state of Wisconsin is able to benefit.”
DeForest Schools Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Toetz, “Our district is one of the few with a double A plus Standard & Poor’s bond rating, and we have increasing enrollment. We are facing a multi million fiscal cliff. This should never be happening.”
John Breuer is Chief of the Allenton Volunteer Fire Department in Washington County, “We're looking for the $500,000 addition to the 1 million you guys approved in the last biennial budget, for the continuation of the PFAs collection and proper disposal of these forever chemicals that we've been using for years.”
Breuer was among local leaders who testified Wednesday in Waukehsha, where the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee held a budget hearing.
