(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A Wausau man convicted of causing his infant son’s death will spend the rest of his life in prison.
The Marathon County District Attorney says Ronnie Lofton was minding the three-month-old boy in January of 2021 while the baby’s mother ran errands. The woman says she came home to find the baby with one eye open, limp and groaning.
The boy was taken to a hospital where 21 rib fractures and bruising were found on the infant’s body. He died five days later. Prosecutors said the baby’s cause of death was blunt-force trauma.
Lofton was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in connection to the death. The charge carries with it a mandatory life sentence.
