TDS to Expand Fiber-Optic Services in Marshfield

(Caitlin Shuda, Marshfield News-Herald) TDS Telecommunications is expanding its fiber-optic services in Wood County with a new project planned in Marshfield.

According to Caitlin Shuda with the Marshfield News Herald, the company plans to bring its services to about 10,000 residences and businesses in Marshfield and Hewitt, the company said Wednesday in a news release.

Through this project, TDS will offer up to 8-gigabits-per-second internet speeds for residents and up to 10Gbps for businesses, as well as its TV and phone services. Construction will start this spring, where crews will bury conduits and cables in neighborhoods and business parks.

TDS services will become available gradually as sections of the network are completed. Drew Petersen, the senior vice president of corporate affairs for TDS, said the fiber-optic service provides reliable and fast connections. “We’re excited to get started on this project and become part of such a vibrant and growing community," he said.

While TDS already offers services in Wood County in Auburndale, Milladore and Vesper, the company’s project in Marshfield will be its first full fiber overbuild in Wood County and will serve an expanded area.

The 54-year-old Madison-based company also has all-fiber networks in Stevens Point, Mosinee, Wausau and the surrounding areas. This project is part of the company’s almost $1 billion investment to expand its fiber-optic footprint throughout the state.
