Marathon County Administrator Lance Leonhard announced that David Hagenbucher has accepted the role of Director of Solid Waste for Marathon County effective March 19.
Hagenbucher succeeds Meleesa Johnson who retired in January after 15 years of service. “Dave has been an incredible asset to Marathon County and our Solid Waste Department. He has been an integral part of the team working on the renewable natural gas conversion project and has more than demonstrated his ability to effectively lead the Solid Waste Department and navigate the complex challenges we often face,” shared Administrator Leonhard. “I look forward to Dave’s accomplishments and contributions to our organization in his new role.”
Hagenbucher joined the Marathon County Solid Waste Department in 2010 as an environmental technician. Most recently he served as the department’s Operations Manager and accepted the additional duties of Interim Director following Johnson’s retirement.
In his new role, Hagenbucher will be responsible for providing leadership to the Solid Waste team as it relates to the operations of our integrated waste management system and ensuring the department’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Additionally, he will oversee the department’s programming, education and consulting services related to waste reduction, recycling, composting, hazardous waste management, landfill disposal, and landfill-gas-to-energy production.
“I’m humbled by the trust and belief in my ability to successfully lead the Solid Waste Department. I’m fortunate to have a highly skilled and motivated team that is passionate about the important work we do and those we serve,” shared Hagenbucher.
“This is an exciting time for the landfill, and I look forward to working collaboratively with our entire community as we help protect human health and the environment and contribute to the goal of making Marathon County the healthiest, safest, and most prosperous county in Wisconsin.”
