Granton School Board Approves Several Sports Co-ops

The Granton School Board approved the hockey co-op.

The Board approved the renewal of a cooperative agreement, with Black River Falls, for boys hockey for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. The Board also approved the renewal of a cooperative agreement, with Black River Falls, for girls hockey for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.

The Board also approved the cooperative agreement, with Spencer & Marshfield Columbus, for varsity wrestling for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. The Board also approved the cooperative agreement, with Neillsville, for JV softball for 2022-23 and going forward.

The Board also approved a cooperative agreement, with Neillsville, for varsity baseball for 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. The Board also approved the purchase of a high jump system for track. The Athletic Boosters have agreed to donate $1000 toward a high jump system.

The Board also approved the Start College Now & Early College Credit program applications. Following discussion on the Equestrian Club and incurred expenses there was no action taken.

The Board also approved the Summer School classes as presented, the School Board Policy Chapter 3, Section E as presented, and the 2023-24 CESA 10 Service Contract. Following a closed session, the Board approved the resignation of Daniel Hebert as the Athletic Director and thanked him for his years of service.

The Board approved the resignation of Samuel Modjewski and thanked him for his service. The Board also approved administration’s recommendation for curriculum director appointment, for second semester, for John Legrid for $1,800 for 2022-23.

The Board approved administration’s recommendation for AGR (Achievement Gap Reduction)/RtI (Response to Intervention)/Title Coordinator contract, for Kim Aumann, for $4,500 for 2022-23. Letters of Appointment were provided to Emily Galeka as a daycare worker and Jean Zimmer as a consulting business/finance manager.

For the Spotlight on Education, Principal Amanda Kraus presented information on the Art Program. December’s Characteristic/Trait focus was Hard-working. The Students of the month because of those traits were Grace Elmhorst for Elementary, Kirsten White for Middle School, and Jordan Berg for High School. The staff person of the month was John Legrid. Principal Amanda Kraus presented the Student Council Report:

  • Basketball season has ended with 8 wins out of 11 games;
  • Hockey season has ended with both boys and girls teams going to play-offs;
  • Track practice has started with first meet on March 17 at Neillsville;
  • Student Council movie date rescheduled;
  • Student Council working on teacher appreciation week ideas;
  • Student Council will donate two baskets to Abby, from Neillsville, that is fighting cancer;
  • And FFA speaking contest in Loyal March 13.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Principal Kraus updated the board regarding:

  • DEFI Wellness Pilot;
  • 2023 Valedictorian Elizabeth Reinart & Salutatorian Abigail Woller;
  • And upcoming Literacy Opportunities.

Superintendent James Kuchta updated the board on information including:

  • CPI-U (Consumer Price Index-Urban) is 8.0%;
  • And working on next year’s budget.

The Board also heard some Committee Reports. Sheryl Young and her family attended Black Advocacy Day at the State Capitol. Sweet Treat Social will be June 10, 2023 at the Granton Fire Station.

Finally, during the Public Comments portion of the meeting, two community members inquired on what the process is for questions or concerns that are made during "Public Comments" at a school board meeting.
