UW Tuition Bill Presented After System President Seeks Tuition Hike
Monday, March 6th, 2023 -- 9:01 AM
(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A proposed bill looks to hold the line on UW System tuition.
The measure, sponsored by De Pere State Senator Andre Jacque and Greenville Representative David Murphy, would guarantee in-state undergraduate tuition in the system won’t rise faster than the inflation rate.
The proposal comes after UW System president Jay Rothman announces his forthcoming request of the Board of Regents for a 5% tuition hike for the next school year, the first time in a decade that tuition for in-state undergrads has changed.
Murphy says the legislation seeks to stop a return of double-digit tuition increases for UW schools.
