Marathon County Sheriff's Department Warns of Scam

The Marathon County Sheriff's Office has received a report that scammers have been using the name of their Chief Deputy, William Millhausen, as part of their scam.

The caller will tell you that he is Chief Deputy William Millhausen and that you have warrants.  You will be told that you can make arrangements to pay those warrants over the phone, avoiding jail time or arrest.

Law enforcement will never call you to inform you of a warrant or demand payment over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, simply hang up.  If you provided the caller any financial information, we ask that you notify your local law enforcement agency.
