Parents Within Wausau School District Sign Petition Against Restructuring

Although the Wausau School Board has approved a restructuring plan for the District, there are many parents in the District who are opposed to the idea.

Over 1,000 people have signed a petition asking the Board to halt the restructuring plan and take it to referendum. Parents feel they should have more of a say as it will be impacting their kids. Superintendent Dr. Keith Hilts said just going to referendum is not that simple.

“People don’t have time to sit through every board meeting and every committee meeting. Even if you read everything on the website, that’s only a good cursory overview of what we are talking about. To be involved in the conversation for years, which many of our board members have been, that’s why I think the board should make the decision,” said Dr. Hilts.

However, community members continue to state they want and deserve a voice in the decision. Dr. Hilts said that he and the rest of the board members are asking people to trust the people elected or appointed to the board and involved in this process.
