(Raymond Neupert, WRN) The head of the State Bar says she's happy to see UW-Law School dropping out of the US News and World Report rankings.
The head of the State Bar says she's happy to see UW-Law School dropping out of the US News and World Report rankings. The school says the rankings don't properly address the needs of the college, something that President Margaret Hickey agrees with.
"We really want the law schools to focus on that so that we can deal with what we have in the state, which are really essentially deserts in parts of the states where there are not enough lawyers, or hardly any lawyers."
UW Law School has decided not to participate in the annual US News and World Report ranking of law schools, and the head of the State Bar says it's a good choice. President Hickey agrees with the numerous other schools who have dropped out that the rankings did little to attract local students.
"We are hoping from the state bar's perspective that they are recruiting Wisconsin lawyers, you know, lawyers, citizens from Wisconsin, who will become Wisconsin lawyers and stay in Wisconsin."
President Hickey says she agrees with the law school that the report no longer served the needs of prospective students. "The things that they measure, don't necessarily lead to a student body that is going to ultimately come out and best serve the state and the people that we want to serve."
The Law School says they want to be able to educate people from all walks of life, and not just chase after recruits from wealthy families or people who tested high in exams.
