Granton School Board Hears Presentations on Charging Stations and Pool Siding Bids

The Granton School Board began their meeting with a couple presentations.

Tim Bartels from Excel Energy presented information, via video conference, regarding infrastructure and charging station options for the electric buses. Also, Luke Schultz from CESA 10 provided an update, via video conference, on the pool siding project bids, which are due Feb. 21st.

The School Board was also in consensus to move forward with the Lion Electric quote, for charging stations, that includes available credits/rebates. The Board also approved the quote from Complete Control for the 98 Addition back-up boiler replacement following information presented by Maintenance Supervisor, Robby Roehl and Tom Schafer, Complete Control Consultant.

A draft of the 2023-24 school calendar was also presented, but the calendar was tabled for further review. Action on the Equestrian Club was tabled while waiting for further information; the Board approved the Invested Member Commitment Agreement with the Rural Virtual Academy (RVA) for the 2023-24 school year; and the CWETN Consortium Agreement was discussed, but no action was needed.

A new policy, Criminal History Record Check & Employee Self-Reporting Requirement, was presented, but the item was tabled. The Board also approved the COVID-19 protocol as presented. It is a requirement of ESSER 3 Federal funding to review safety protocols every six months.

Following a closed session, the Board approved the leave of absence request from Miranda Wallenhorst; approved the leave of absence request from Rachel Djubenski; and approved administration’s recommendation for retirement benefit of $15.00 per day of unused sick leave, for Sheila Kind, per language in the 2010-11 Master Agreement for Educational Support Professionals.

For Spotlight on Education, Principal Amanda Kraus presented information and updates on the District Strategic Plan. December’s Characteristic/Trait focus was Gratitude. Students of the Month were Severin Legrid for the Elementary, Taelor Luchterhand for the Middle School, and Kaitlynn Timm for the High School. Blair Necas is the Staff Person of the Month.

Student Council representative Tori Seif reported on boys JV basketball game; boys & girls varsity hockey playoffs this week; boys varsity hockey team seeded 1st; Jordan Berg & Caleb Schoessow will receive their varsity letter in hockey; FFA week Feb. 20-23; and FFA winter incentive trip to the Dells on Feb. 24.

The Board heard the Administrators’ Reports. Principal Amanda Kraus updated the board regarding Iditarod Thematic Unit; Lunch Bunch: Learning Sessions; ACT WIN Time Prep.

Superintendent James Kuchta updated the board on information including January Pupil Count; DPI Early Commencement approval; and Child Development Day.

During the Public Comments portion of the meeting, a community member inquired if the district would be seeking possible collaboration/partnerships with other school districts.

Board Member Theresa Hasz shared a newspaper article about the book vending machine donation made to the school from the Women Helping Out (WHO) organization.
