Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville OR Department Sees Huge Advancements In Technology

Surgical services saw some of the biggest updates to their OR department when the new Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville was built in May 2021. While not much has changed as far as cases go, there has been some huge advancements in technology.
Some of the advanced technology in surgical services includes stationary monitors and new suction machines; both of which allow the OR team to save crucial minutes in the operating room. A few of the more exciting technology changes lie in patient care. A new system streamlines a patient’s chart requiring less manual input while it automatically maintains and updates their vital signs even as they make their way into the recovery room. Prior to procedures, a pre-op nurse is now able to offer essential oil patches and foot massages to patients to ensure their comfort and relaxation.
Jen Jacobson, RN Supervisor for Surgical Services at MMC-Neillsville, said “All of this saves us so much time and stress prior to a procedure and throughout the recovery process.”
OR staff has experienced many different types of surgeries such as orthopedics and general surgeries like appendectomies, cholecystectomies, bowel resections, cyst removals, exploratory surgeries, colonoscopies, amputations, gynecological, podiatry, cataracts and cancer-related surgeries. Jen said “We recently just did our very first podiatry procedure last Friday with the new podiatrist, Dr. Brian Rougeux! It went great!”
