The Highground's Winter Raises Over $1,800 for Veterans Retreats

A new venue and cold weather didn't stop supporters from spending their "spare" time with The Highground during their 10th Annual Winter Bowl at Bowl Winkles in Eau Claire on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Participants of all ages took to the lanes at noon for a fun day of bowling, a chance at 34 amazing raffle items and a Super Bowl Party grand prize package that was right up their alley. Raising over $1,800, this event will help to fund The Highground's 2023 Veterans Retreats. For five years, The Highground has helped to transform the lives of many Veterans over their three-day weekend retreats.

By fostering trusted relationships through a holistic approach of activities and workshops, these retreats are designed to help Veterans tap into hidden emotions and experiences, helping to relieve burdens and soften memories so they can begin to find their purpose and mission at home.The retreats are free for Veterans and include resources they can take home at the end of the weekend.

Veterans have reported:

• “It was wonderful and unexpected in so many ways, from sharing with others, memories, reflection time and some personal time”;
• "... drew out many of our stories which helped us bond.”;
• "This is the first time I have slept without nightmares in 10 years”;
• “It is so 'freeing' to be able to talk to other Veterans going through the same thing."

This year's Winter Retreat was held the first weekend in February; the Women’s Retreat is scheduled for the third weekend in June; the Female Ice Age Trail Hike Retreat will be held the fourth weekend in June; and the Men’s Retreat is planned for the second weekend in September.
