Monday, October 2nd, 2006 -- 1:45 PM
Marshfield has been without a full time fire chief since Gregg Cleveland left to take a job in La Crosse. Now, the Marshfield NewsHerald reports the City will likely not fill the position, instead they've decided to hire a public safety director to oversee both the fire and rescue and police departments. That means, not only will there be no fire chief, but they?ll also scrap the police chief?s position.
They hope to have someone hired in four to six weeks.
The NewsHerald quotes the a city officials as saying the new public safety director will need administration, technical, management and fiscal skills.
Other communities, such as Altoona, have structured their government in a similar way in an effort to save money and help the two department work better together.
