Farm Bureau President on DNR Wolf Management Hearing
Friday, January 27th, 2023 -- 10:01 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) -The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will hold a virtual listening session on wolf management, but can everyone take part?
Wisconsin Farm Bureau President Kevin Krentz says many farmers in the areas most affected by wolves don’t have adequate broadband coverage to participate.
“What we want is for them to have a hearing in a primal wolf habitat area mainly northern Wisconsin so that we can have Wisconsin residents having a voice in this process.”
“The residential requirements of this virtual listening session isn't even there. So you can have activists from far away being part of it. And that's not fair to the residents of Wisconsin."
The online public hearing is scheduled for February 7 at 4:00 PM. Public comments can also be submitted until the end of February, at D N R dot W I dot Gov. Search for Wolf Management Plan.
Wisconsin DNR’s webpage shows 49 incidents with 70 confirmed wolf kills of calves, chickens, lambs, and hunting dogs in 2022. There were also 14 wolf harassment threats last year.
