UW System Bans TikTok

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) There’s another ban on the Chinese social media app TikTok in Wisconsin.

Tuesday, officials with the University of Wisconsin System announce the use of the app is prohibited on system devices. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers banned TikTok use on state phones and other devices earlier this month, but his order didn’t apply to the UW System. Universities use TikTok accounts to connect with high school students for recruiting purposes.

Several colleges nationwide have banned TikTok recently. Last month, Congress passed bipartisan legislation banning the app on many U.S. government-issued devices due to concerns that the Chinese government would use American user data to try to push pro-China narratives or misinformation.
