Thorp Sixth Graders Read Novel "A Long Walk to Water"

Thorp sixth graders recently finished reading the novel, “A Long Walk to Water.”

It follows the true life story of Salva as he escapes war in South Sudan and ultimately seeks refuge and starts the “Water for South Sudan” foundation in the United States. They were moved by his story and invited Mrs. Wilson, who founded an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya, to come and talk with them about life in East Africa and her experiences there.

Students were able to try on Kenyan clothing, learn traditional greetings, and experience the close quarters of an 8 by 10 foot house.
