Clark County Health Department Reminds Residents of Birth Defects Awareness Month
Tuesday, January 17th, 2023 -- 12:00 PM
This month is National Birth Defects Awareness Month.
According to the Clark County Health Department, in Wisconsin, approximately 2,000 infants are born with a birth defect each year, impacting 3% of all births. Birth defects are a substantial cause of childhood morbidity and long-term disability and are the fifth leading cause of years of potential life lost.
Birth defects can happen for many reasons. Although not all birth defects can be prevented, people can increase their chances of having a healthy baby by managing health conditions and adopting healthy behaviors before becoming pregnant.
