(Ted Ehlen, WRN) The recently crowned Miss America encourages young girls to follow their dreams in a STEM career.
While visiting the Girls Empowered by Math and Science Conference in Kenosha Thursday, Wausau native and UW-Madison nuclear engineering student Grace Stanke is using her platform as Miss America to shine the spotlight on the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM.
Stanke tells Fox 6 Milwaukee she’s inviting girls to follow her example and consider a career in those fields. "That is where empowerment comes from; that's where a future in STEM and powerful women come from.” Stanke’s appearance in Kenosha was her first as Miss America.
