Marshfield Area Pet Shelter Has a Successful Year of Helping Animals in 2022

The Marshfield Area Pet Shelter had another successful year of helping animals.
They had 686 animals come through their doors, 408 were adopted into loving homes, 91 were reunited with their owners, 42 were transferred in from other agencies, and 116 cats and dogs funneled through our 14 foster homes. Also, 36 dogs found their new forever homes in 2022.
MAPS also provided some great updates and good stories regarding some of their residents. The provided an update on the pup Duke. Duke had been found by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department after being hit by a vehicle. He’s been receiving treatment.
Duke found a friend at the shelter while he recovers from his injuries. He still has a long road to recover, but he continues to make progress every day. Duke will be making another road trip to Madison for a re-evaluation with his orthopedic specialist. Many thanks to all who donated to help Duke.
Also, Petra was always a shy kitty at the shelter. She waited 8 long months to find her new mom in May 2019. Recently, the unthinkable happened. In September, Petra got spooked and somehow escaped the house.
Her mom Kathy contacted MAPS right away and numerous times since then to check in to see if Petra was found. Kathy had given up hope. However, on December 27th, ordinance officers brought in a black cat that was seen hiding under some stairs at a local business.
MAPS checked the kitty for a microchip like they do with every animal that enters the facility and she had a chip. They were shocked and overjoyed, it was Petra. She was thin and hungry, but doing OK, so they called her mom.
She couldn't believe Petra was finally found. Also, their sweet kitty Chia gave birth to seven babies in July and she waited for months to find a new home. Chia got her Christmas wish and she was adopted just in time to spend the holiday with her new family.
