Marshfield Area Pet Shelter Helps Pup Hit by a Car

On December 6th, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter received an emergency phone call from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department that a lab mix, known as Duke, had been hit by a car.
They sprang into action to assess the condition of the injured dog. X-rays at Castlerock Veterinary Hospital revealed a fractured pelvis in three places and numerous broken teeth. 48 hours after the accident, Duke was still in a lot of pain so they consulted with an orthopedic specialist at Madison Veterinary Specialists.
Duke was rushed to Madison the next day where a CT scan was performed. The scan revealed surprisingly good news. Duke’s injuries would not require surgery and he would eventually heal on his own.
However, he is facing a long 6-8 weeks of ‘bedrest’ and once he recovers, he will need 6 teeth removed. Duke is now back at the shelter under the watchful eye of MAPS vet tech staff. His days are long in his kennel because he is still unable to stand up or walk, but he's making progress every day.
Duke’s extensive medical needs included 7 days at the Madison hospital among many other expenses which exceeded $5,000. MAPS is so grateful for the opportunity to give this sweet pup the second chance he deserves, but the expenses have drained their medical fund.
If you can give even a small gift to help replenish their fund, that would be greatly appreciated. All animals deserve the opportunity to receive the care they need. Your support makes it possible.
