AREA SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED

A few area schools have been recognized as high poverty schools that beat the odds.Granton Elementary and High School, Greenwood Elementary and High School, Loyal Elementary and Junior High, Owen-Withee Elementary, Junior High and High School and Thorp Elementary and High School have all been named ?New Wisconsin Promise Schools of Recognition? by the DPI.
To be recognized, schools must be eligible to receive federal Title I funding and be among the highest poverty schools in the state based on free and reduced lunch data. Additionally, student achievement must be above the state average for similar schools in both reading and math, and the school must have made adequate yearly progress for the past two years.
The schools will be recognized with a plaque and $1,000 reward during an October 10th ceremony at the Capitol.
