Marshfield Public Works Board Approves Contract Amendment with Waste Management

Wednesday, December 21st, 2022 -- 11:01 AM

-The Marshfield Public Works Board approved a contract amendment with Waste Management regarding pick up of certain items.

The amendment approved eliminates curbside collection of yard waste, brush & branches, Christmas Trees, and bulky items. The Common Council’s adopted budget for 2023 removed funding for curbside collection of yard waste, brush and branches and Christmas Trees.

This service had been provided 10 times during the year (5 yard waste, 3 brush and branches and 2 Christmas trees) at a proposed 2023 cost of $5,125 per time. With the removal of funding for this service, it is necessary to amend the City’s contract with Waste Management for this service.

The Board also recommended approval of requests for planning services for the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan update and authorized solicitation of proposals. The Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan will serve as an update to the five-year plan that expired in 2018.

It will further develop, enhance and sustain a safe and accessible parks system for the City of Marshfield. The plan will guide the future preservation, enhancement and development of parks, trails and greenway connections, recreational opportunities, cost estimates and funding.

It will drive parks and recreation long-range and near-term planning and direct decision-making and resources toward a defined vision. This vision includes the development and redevelopment of the parks, facilities, open space, public art and recreation system.

The board also recommended approval of the request for proposals and agreement for Vandehey Waters Concession Services and authorized solicitation of proposals. Vandehey Waters concessions operations were designed as either employee operated or outside contractor operated.

The first year and a half it was operated by city employees. In 2023, as a means to reduce expenses & overhead, contracting out concession operations is being considered.

Finally, the Board recommended approval of quotation of Earth Inc., Arpin for the 2023 Crushing and Stockpiling of Asphalt and Concrete salvage materials and authorized execution of an agreement.

The Board received three bids for this item. Earth Inc. was the lowest at $77,790. They also received a bid from PGA, Inc. in Weston for $78,129 and Paul Bugar Trucking Inc. of Loyal for $80,388. All of these items will be sent to the Common Council for final approval.
