Marathon County Investing in New Information and Technology Security

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Marathon County will be investing in new information and technology security in the new year.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Administrator Lance Leonhard says it's been nearly 20 years since some of the data storage elements have been updated. "Some of the things we're adding is really to keep us in line with best practices. So, real time system monitoring. A sim to make sure that if we do have an issue we're on top of that and reponding properly"
He knows the importance of cyber security considering the amount of employee and resident data that is stored in their servers. "Keeping up to date on all of our system updates whether it's our internally charged systems, our finance systems, making sure our servers are updated."
He says that also includes a new website which will launch in conjunction with the City of Wausau. "We hope to roll that website out in the first half of next year, which should, again, hopefully help people who are looking to get services done, particularily in this digital world."
He says that also includes a new website which he hopes will help residents get more business done with the county on their own time. "Remote service access, people working from home, people trying to acess service from home. Whether it's telehealth, tele-medicine. Those expectations of government have come up."
The I-T improvements were included as part of the 20-23 budget. Leonhard adds he wants the county website to be more like Amazon and less of Britanica, allowing residents to get things done in one stop.
