Marshfield School Board Discusses Results of Survey About Building Referendum

The Marshfield School Board heard the results of a survey gauging the support for a $99.5 million referendum at their Wednesday evening meeting.

The Marshfield School District’s Facility Planning Committee has been discussing the project and sent out a community survey regarding the referendum. They received 1,516 responses, with the largest response from 65+ at 28% followed by 35-44 at 24%.

It also found that Marshfield staff is the most supportive of the referendum (89%), followed by parents (69%), and followed by non-parents and non-staff at (52%). The trend is reversed in those that wouldn’t support it with 30% of non-parents and staff, 13% of parents, and 4% of staff.

It was also noted the referendum will have a neutral impact on Marshfield’s mill rate. The Board also approved a long list of donations and gifts including:

  • School supplies valued at $1,000 from Walmart 2;
  • Grant Elementary received school supplies valued at $175 from Pick N’ Save and items for the Veterans Day Program valued at $207.19 from Wisconsin Homes;
  • Madison Elementary received coloring books/small toys valued at $30 from Sandy Hill, $100 towards holiday Baskets from Steve & Connie Timmerman, ten boxes of cheese valued at $300 for holiday baskets from Ryan & Amanda Heiman, and twelve turkeys valued at $250 from Erik & Tracy Jonas;
  • Lincoln Elementary received classroom snacks valued at $75 from Cornerstone Community Church, items for the school store valued at $220, items for the school store valued at $60 from Ryan and Andrea McGaver:
  • The Middle School received $500 for classroom activities for the Personalized Pathways Program and supplies for their Basement Brew Coffee Shop from Merlin and Jeanne Denk through Thrivent;
  • The High School received $2,000 for Girls Soccer uniforms, $826.95 for Boys Soccer uniforms, $3,437 for Boys Basketball uniforms, track board updates valued at $80.75, $181.75 for Wrestling Dues from the Booster Club, and $275 for Volleyball Conference Champ T-shirts from the Marshfield Tiger Booster Club;
  • $100 to R2P4A (Right to Play for All) Scholarship for girls hockey from Marshfield Area United Way;
  • $100 for the High School Key Club from the Kiwanis Club;
  • $55 for High School Athletics from Make-A-Wish Foundation;
  • And the FFA Program received $2,709.63 from the Marshfield FFA Alumni, $295 from the Central WI State Fair, and $1,000 from the National FFA Foundation.

The Board also approved the first reading of several policies and heard some information regarding others. The Board also approved two retirements and a resignation. Finally, the Board approved a trip to Decorah, Iowa in January for select choir students for the Dorian Vocal Festival and the Science Bowl Team to Milwaukee for the Regional Science Bowl.
