LOYAL WOMAN KILLED WHILE CROSSING STREET
Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 -- 8:18 AM
The Marshfield NewsHerald reports the death of a nurse from Loyal has prompted a renewed call for drivers to slow down and look for pedestrians.54-year-old Charlene Carter, a nurse at Saint Joseph's Hospital, was struck and killed by an 85-year-old motorist while crossing the street north of hospital on Friday afternoon.
Seeing Carter was not in the crosswalk, there was no citation issued in the accident.
Officials in Marshfield say the accident highlights the need for drivers and pedestrians to watch out for one another. There will also be some changes to the traffic flow in the area with traffic reduced from four lanes to three and two stop signs installed along that stretch of road, giving pedestrians a four-way intersection to cross from parking lots to the main building.
