Marshfield Aldermen File Papers of Non-Candidacy

An election for Alderpersons for the City of Marshfield will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, unless a Spring Primary is needed, which will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
The election will be for each aldermanic seat in the even-numbered districts (Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10). There are 10 aldermanic districts in the city of Marshfield. Aldermanic seats in the odd-number districts will be elected in the spring of 2024.
Nomination papers for these offices can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office located at 207 W. 6th St, Marshfield, WI. Candidates can now circulate their nomination papers, which already began on Thursday, December 1, 2022.
The deadline to file candidacy papers with the City Clerk is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Candidates for the office of Alderperson are required to obtain a minimum of 20 signatures and a maximum of 40 signatures from eligible voters in their district.
The term for Alderperson begins on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. All terms are for two years unless otherwise indicated. Currently, the following have filed a Notification of Non-candidacy, which means the incumbent is not running for office.
Alderperson, District 2 - Nick Poeschel (has filed Notification of Non-candidacy), Alderperson, District 6 - Tom Witzel (has filed Notification of Non-candidacy), Alderperson, District 10 - Peter O. Hendler (has filed Notification of Non-candidacy).
The City of Marshfield Alderpersons are elected to serve for two-year terms and are expected to attend several meetings each month. These include Common Council meetings held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m.
In addition, each Alderperson will be appointed to a Standing Committee, which are scheduled to meet on the first and third week of the month, typically Monday, or Tuesday. A candidacy informational packet may be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office.
