City of Marshfield Considering Referendum Question for Emergency Services
Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 -- 12:01 PM
The City of Marshfield is continuing to work on emergency services for city residents.
One idea being considered is asking homeowners to pay for the services. Marshfield, like many municipalities, is facing a budget deficit. The City is considering putting a referendum question on the spring ballot asking residents if they would pay an extra fee to fund police, fire and emergency personnel in the city.
Marshfield’s emergency services are facing staffing shortages and outdated equipment. City officials stressed that this wouldn’t be a one time thing. A referendum for that particular idea would need to be approved multiple times.
City officials are still deciding on what to do, but if they go the route of a referendum, it was stressed that it would be better to get the question on the spring ballot. The Marshfield School District will have a $90 million referendum question on the fall ballot.
