On Saturday, December 3rd, around 5:29pm, the Tomah Fire Department was dispatched to 110 E. Council St. for a Community-Based Residential Facility Home on fire.

According to Tomah Fire Chief Tim Adler, first arriving fire personnel reported heavy fire showing from the north west side of the exterior and was growing quickly. Due to the initial report, along with the building type and construction, mutual aid was requested from Oakdale Fire Department and Fort McCoy Fire Department for engines and manpower.

Tomah Police Department was first on scene and helped the residents evacuate to safety. Suppression efforts took several hours to contain the fire. There were 41 firefighters on the scene during this incident. There was significant fire and water damage that occurred. There were no injuries reported.

Due to the cold weather and everything freezing up, the City of Tomah Public Works Department was called in to salt the area. The cause of the fire was unintentional and occurred from careless use of smoking materials.

Assisting at the scene was the Tomah Area Ambulance Service, Oakdale Fire Department, Fort McCoy Fire Department, Tomah Police Department, Monroe County 911 Communication Center, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, WE Energies, Alliant Energy and the City of Tomah Public Works Department. He also sent out a special shout out to Kwik Trip for supplying hot coffee and sandwiches to those who helped.
