The Hixton Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday morning.
According to the Department, around 11:04 on Thursday, Hixton Fire was paged for a possible Fire on Winger Road in the Township of Northfield. Jackson County Dispatch advised at 11:08 that they received a report of a structure fire at W14627 Winger Road.
When the Department arrived, the attached garage of the home had already collapsed and the home was engulfed in heavy fire. The cause of the fire is unknown and yesterday’s windy condition caused the fire to spread very rapidly contributing to the structure being a complete loss.
The owners of the home were not there at the time of the fire, so no human injuries were reported. However, four dogs did die in the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
The Hixton Fire Department received assistance from Hixton EMS, Alma Center Fire Department, the Black River Falls Fire Department, Pigeon Falls Fire Department, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Electric, and the Red Cross.
