Brooks Files Initial Notice in Appeals Process

(Bob Hague, WRN) Convicted Waukesha Christmas Parade attacker Darrell Brooks has indicated he plans to appeal.

In a handwritten notice to seek post-conviction relief Brooks, who represented himself at trial, requests help from the state Public Defender's Office in the appeal effort. Court records do not indicate when the matter will go before a judge or appellate court.

The notice is an early step of the appeals process. Per state statute, such notices must be filed within 20 days of sentencing. Brooks was sentenced on November 16 to six consecutive life prison terms.
