Plenty of Butter Available, but Prices are Up Over Last Year

(Bob Hague, WRN) The US may be facing a butter shortage, with the USDA reporting the amount of butter in cold storage is the lowest in at least four years, and 18% lower than last year.
But Manitowoc County Agriculture Educator Angie Ulness says that’s not reflected on store shelves. “You would expect when you hear a butter shortage that you go to the grocery store and the shelves will be empty but that's not the case butter is available just the price has gone up a little bit.”
Ulness says that’s also partly reflected in prices. “Butter prices average around $2.88 per pound and that's up from $1.73 per pound from last year.” Ulness says we’ll be buying a lot, even with higher prices
“Americans will be buying 161 million pounds of butter between the second week of November through Christmas. That's a lot of butter - enough to make 11 billion butter cookies.”
Ulness says butter prices average around $2.88 per pound, up from $1.73 per pound from last year.
