Waukesha Parade Victims Statements at Brooks Sentencing
Wednesday, November 16th, 2022 -- 1:00 PM
(Bob Hague, WRN) Victims of the Waukesha Christmas Parade Attack spoke out during day one of sentencing for convicted killer Darrell Brooks.
“Forgiveness is a choice. I know that I can forgive you Darrell Brooks, without forgetting the trauma you caused, without you apologizing and acknowledging your actions. This may take some time for me to accomplish. This event was completely avoidable and from my perspective, there has been zero remorse, sympathy or acknowledgement of the victims by the defendant.”
“I couldn't make it through a day without feeling hyper vigilant, startling at every noise, having a panic attack from the sound of a door, shout, thud. I'm trying my best to not let the incident that affect us that affected us all to get the best of me and define who I am and to define who we all are.”
Victim statements were cut short for a time due to an unspecified threat which cleared the courtroom. Brooks, convicted of killing six and injuring dozens in the November 2021 SUV attack, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
