Doc's Advice to Deer Hunters: Take it Easy on Your Heart
Monday, November 14th, 2022 -- 8:01 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) A reminder for Wisconsin hunters to pay attention to their heart while chasing deer.
Doctor Marcus Sublette with Aspirus Health says the rush and strain of hunting isn't a good combination if you already have problems. “When folks are not used to doing that they put a lot more stress on their heart they otherwise have been doing and so sometimes when people are deer hunting that's the first time they start to feel symptoms. Deer hunting can be very physically strenuous, climbing up stands, hauling deer out of the woods. There's really quite a lot to it.”
Sublette says hunters who start to feel unwell, short of breath or with chest pains need to stop and rest. And ask for help if they’re having difficulty hauling their deer out of the woods.
