XCEL SEEKS RATE INCREASE
Tuesday, August 8th, 2006 -- 8:29 AM
Xcel Energy customers could be facing another rate increase.Citing increased purchases of renewable generation and higher-than-forecast fuel costs associated with coal generation, Xcel Energy Inc. has filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin seeking an increase to the company?s 2007 retail electric base rates.
Xcel projects current electric rates would lead to a $22.6 million shortfall next year alone. If approved as filed, a typical residential customer will see a $2.80 jump to their monthly electric bill. The PSC will begin hearings on the increase this fall.
