Rain Over the Weekend Delays Some Wisconsin Fieldwork

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Although Wisconsin farmers had over five days suitable for fieldwork during the past week, heavy precipitation over the weekend did put a halt to some of the activity being done in the fields.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the latest crop/weather summary from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service, unseasonably warm temperatures and dry conditions earlier in the week helped producers wrap up their soybean harvest and haul manure.

Topsoil moisture condition levels were rated two percent very short, 16 percent short, 76 percent adequate and six percent surplus. Harvest of corn for grain was 55 percent complete, nine days behind last year, but one day ahead of the five-year average.

Moisture content of the corn was 20 percent throughout the state. All but five percent of the soybeans have been rolled through the combine as of this past Sunday. That's four days ahead of last year's progress for early November.

The winter wheat was at 88 percent emerged, with crop scouts putting its condition rating at 82 percent good to excellent. And fall tillage was 59 percent complete. That's about one day behind last year, but 11 days ahead of the average.
