A new Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance report shows Neillsville?s spending habits are generally in-line with the averages for similar-sized communities.The ?Municipal Facts? report uses data from 2004.
The bottom line: Neillsville?s 2004 municipal per capita tax levy was $339, about $4 below the statewide average of $343 per person.
The study finds Neillsville spent about $65 per person on general government, a drop of 8-percent between 2000 and 2004, and below the statewide average of $82 per person.
Neillsville does spend more for police protection. In 2004, each city resident spent about $166 for police protection, an increase of 46-percent during the four year period and slightly above the statewide average of $157.
The City?s overall spending per capita ? referred to as ?operating spending?- was $750, $160 above the statewide average.
