Another Great Week for Wisconsin Farmers to Get Work Done in the Fields

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Despite a few showers earlier in the week, Wisconsin farmers had mostly sunny skies and above average temperatures to help spur growth of small grains and cover crops.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the weekly crop progress report also noted that the corn and soybean harvest continued across the state, while others were busy hauling manure or tilling the ground for next season.

Topsoil moisture condition levels were rated three percent very short, 20 percent short, 75 percent adequate and two percent surplus. As of Sunday, 37 percent of the corn for grain was harvested--about 11 days lower than last year and two days behind the five-year average.

Moisture content was 22 percent. The corn for silage harvest was all but three percent complete. The soybean harvest was 86 percent complete, which was two days ahead the same time in 2021 and more than a week further along than normal.

Seventy-nine percent of the winter wheat has emerged and looks to be around 83 percent good to excellent.Fall tillage was 50 percent complete, one day behind last year, but 11 days ahead of the average.
