RSV Cases Spiking Early in Wisconsin

(Bob Hague, WRN) Cases of a respiratory virus that largely affects young kids are spiking in Wisconsin.
Tom Haupt with the state Department of Health Services says we’re averaging hundreds of cases RSV each week. “This could be a potentially very serious respiratory season, especially for the children in Wisconsin.”
Haupt says getting a flu shot and COVID booster and taking other precautions can help kids and older adults most at risk from RSV. “By receiving our vaccinations and practicing good hygiene and giving ourselves time to heal when we're not feeling well, we're doing our part to limit the spread of the virus.”
Haupt says there are things parents and caregivers can do to slow the spread. “We want them to practice good hygiene we want them to practice good hand washing. One of the biggest things with RSV too is to make sure that when this child is sick that they have the opportunity to get well at home and they don't spread it to others at a daycare.”
Haupt said getting the flu shot and a COVID booster can also help reduce the risks for kids and older adults who are risk from RSV.
