CCEDC HIRES CONSULTANT
Tuesday, August 1st, 2006 -- 11:12 AM
Community development consultant Craig Tebon of Ripon was hired by the Clark County Economic Development Corporation, he made the first in a series of visits to Clark County on Monday with stops in Loyal and Colby, followed by a public presentation in Greenwood last night."We're looking at what kind of buildings are around, what kinds of businesses are in the communities. Housing opportunities, promotional opportunites, marketing opportunities," explains Tebon. "Trying to get a better feel and that will give us an indication of what to do in the future."
And Tebon heard firsthand about some of the challenges facing Clark County. For instance, Loyal mayor Randy Anderson said he is trying to reinvent his community. Local businesses have suffered with the development of ?big box? retailers like Wal-Mart and Menards, Anderson noted.
Tebon says he wants the county to follow a four-point approach to redeveloping area downtowns: first, he says a design plan should be developed followed by restructuring, organization and promotion.
CCEDC Executive Director Sheila Nyberg says the revitalization will continue using that approach. She hopes to have plans in place for the County?s communities by the end of the year.
"Craig is helping me move them all forward a little bit faster in their think tank," Nyberg says. "Some of it is design, some is putting data together and knowing what the next step should be."
Tebon is visiting other local communities today and tomorrow and be back in late August and early September.
