Tuesday, October 25th, 2022 -- 2:00 PM
(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The leader of two Wausau Catholic Churches is out after claims of sexual misconduct against a minor.
Reverend Mark Pierce of the east side Parishes- Saint Michaels and the Church of the Resurrection- is said to have made inappropriate contact with a minor several years ago.
Claims that came to light in recent weeks, and led Bishop William Callahan of the La Crosse Diocese to address the congregations last Sunday, confirming his ouster. Details of the allegations have been kept under wraps, but Pierce did say he hurt someone through contact that was not appropriate for a priest.
Sexual misconduct by clergy has been a focal point for the state and Attorney General Josh Kaul, who recently installed a dedicated hotline allowing abuse victims to come forward.
