Lisenby Properties celebrated their new Sunset Place Apartments in the former hospital building in Neillsville with a ribbon cutting Monday afternoon.

Mark and Lynda Lisenby began having talks about converting the former hospital and nursing home back in 2019. Demolition and construction on the building began around 15 months ago. The City of Neillsville helped assist with the project by creating a TIF District for the Lisenbys’ project.

It was a unique project for the Lisenbys as they had to work within the existing structure of the former hospital and nursing home. To work with this, they would start working on apartments closest to the walls of the facilities and work inward.

They’ve been creating the different apartments in phases, with Phase I apartments complete and even with some being rented. Phase II is in progress and most have already been spoken for.

Lynda said that most people that have inquired about the apartments have been looking to rent and not just looking out of curiosity. She said it’s been great to see. Lynda talked about the great partnerships they’ve had to get this project done.

There are one to three bedroom apartments available for rent, with one bedroom apartments starting at $850 per month. Rent includes high speed internet, basic cable, water/sewer, garbage, lawn care, and snow removal.

The facility also has a fitness center for tenants, on-site laundry, multi-use/community rooms, a dog park, and the newly opened Just Love Coffee Cafe. The cafe is open to the public. Their hours are 5am-7pm Monday-Friday and 5am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Some other features include stainless steel appliances, controlled access and security cameras, solid surface quartz countertops, solid maple/cherry finished-kitchen cabinets and more. For an added fee, pets are allowed as well.

At the ribbon cutting, officials from the City of Neillsville, Clark County Economic Development Corporation, Clark County Board of Supervisors, and Neillsville Chamber of Commerce all stated the importance of a project like this. The reuse of an empty building and providing much needed housing for Clark County.
