Next Week is Sterile Processing Week

Millions of medical procedures are performed in health care facilities around the world. The specialized devices medical professionals use need to be sterile and in working order.

Sterile Processing Technicians (SPT) professionals such as Kelly Kreager at Aspirus work to ensure devices are suitably cleaned, sanitized and in certified working conditions. Sterile Processing Week takes place October 9 – 15 and recognizes the committed specialists that fill sterile processing departments and make a difference in patient care.

“A lot goes into these instruments,” says Kreager. “It’s not something that you just put into the wash. It’s very important that we do our job correctly.” SPT’s need to be well-trained and skilled. Their efforts play a critical role in supporting infection control within the facility.

“The process of taking care of a patient starts here,” adds Kreager. “It’s very rewarding to know that you’ve made a difference in one’s life.” The hard work by SPT professionals such as Kreager allows patients to receive safe and timely medical care.
