Wisconsin Senator Downplays Attack on US Capitol

Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 -- 8:00 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) US Senator Ron Johnson says he doesn't believe that the protestors that stormed the US Capital during the January 6th attack should be called 'armed'.

Johnson says he doesn't believe the January 6th Attack on the US Capitol is as bad as the US Justice Department says. Speaking to the Milwaukee Rotary Club on Tuesday, the Wisconsin Republican repeated his claims that the people inside the building were orderly. "The 'armed insurrectionists' stayed within the rope lines in the rotunda... I'm sorry, that's not what an armed insurrection would look like."

The Wisconsin Republican said none of the protestors had guns. "Now, some of the protesters did teach us all how you can use flagpoles, that kind of stuff, as weapons. But to call what happened on January 6th, an armed insurrection, I just think is not accurate."

Hundreds of people have been arrested and charged for their part in the attack, and the January 6th Committee is still holding hearings on the attack.  Justice officials have offered extensive evidence at the January 6th Hearings of attackers at the Capitol planning to injure or capture Democrats and other lawmakers attempting to complete the election of President Joe Biden.

Some of the attackers entered the offices of lawmakers looking for Congress members and vandalized the building. Four people have so far been charged with bringing guns into the Capitol grounds and two have been convicted.

Others who stormed the Capitol to prevent the election of President Joe Biden carried stun guns, pepper spray, and clubs, and an entire group of protestors carrying rifles had to be stopped by police before they made it to the Capitol.

Johnson also discussed clean energy and said he opposes clean energy initiatives because the country's businesses and industries need heavy power. He says we shouldn't be giving advantages to other countries in the global economy.

"China's not going to reduce CO2 emissions. India's not going to. They need power for their people, we need the power to power our economy. You're not going to power our economy with solar and wind that's a fantasy."
