LOCAL GARDENING GROUP TO HOLD TOUR

Thursday, July 13th, 2006 -- 12:09 PM

A local gardening group will hold their bi-annual garden walk this weekend.

?Our mission statement is to share and expand our garden knowledge and promote gardening to the community,? explains Emilie Fleischmann of Granton, one of 18 members of Clark County?s Over the Garden Gate Gardening Club.

The group was organized in 1997; many of its members are Master Gardeners, but it?s not a requirement.

?The process is a twelve-week course, you go once a week. They cover everything in gardening from the soil to flowers and trees,? Fleischmann says of the UW Master Gardening program.

Aside from getting better in their own gardens, Master Gardeners are required to give back with their communities.

This Saturday?s Garden Walk will be a great example of ?giving back? as proceeds from the tour will be given to the Highground and the Neillsville Legion.

The Garden Walk will run from 10 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $5, and can be purchased at any of the tour sites.

If you?d like more information about becoming a Master Gardener or joining the local gardening group, you can call the UW-Extension office at 743-5121.
