COUNTY BOARD RACE WILL STAND
Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 -- 10:02 AM
The Clark County Press reports Wednesday a lawsuit contesting a close County Board race has been dismissed. In the race, which was recounted on April 12th, County Board Chairman Wayne Hendrickson defeated Gene Gregory by four votes ? 119-115.
In a civil lawsuit, Gregory claimed irregularities in absentee voting and the voter numbering process.
County Corporation Counsel Frank Vaszquez, representing the Clark County Board of Canvassers, said Gregory failed to allege specific facts and circumstances showing how the result of the election would have been different because of the alleged irregularities.
Clark County Judge Jon Counsell ruled in favor of Vasquez's motion to dismiss the case on June 29th.
The case caused a bit of a stir when, in May, area Representative Scott Suder said on our Viewpoint program County vote-counters accepted votes e-mailed to the County Clerk?s office well after the polls closed; a claim County Clerk ? and fellow Republican - Christina Jensen unequivocally denied.
