WISC. RAPIDS BASED TROOPS HEADED TO BORDER

Over a dozen soldiers from a Wisconsin Rapids-based National Guard unit will be among the 80 civilian soldiers from he state deployed to the Mexican border.14 members of the Wisconsin Rapids-based 1st Battalion, 120th Field Artillery, will leave their central Wisconsin homes Thursday to aid with border security in Arizona until July 2008.
The Wisconsin National Guard received a request on June 28 for soldiers to fill positions in Arizona.
90 soldiers have volunteered for the ?Operation Jump Start?.
Currently, around 2,500 soldiers are present along the southern border; that number will climb to 6,000 by next year.
The unit already has around 450 soldiers deployed overseas in Kuwait and Iraq.
