OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD
Friday, July 7th, 2006 -- 9:39 AM
They've been practicing since the first week of May, but now the cast and crew of the Neillsville Area Players are set to present one of the most well-known musicals of all-time: The Wizard of Oz."We have been practicing four nights a week since May," says director Cheryl Anderegg. "We schedule them for two hours a night, but more often than not, they run over."
Neillsville junior Marta Knodle plays Dorothy, Rollin Reinhart plays the Scarecrow, The Cowardly Lion is played by Tim Meyer, the Tin Man is played by Tony Opelt and the Wicked Witch is played by Barb Opelt.
And that, says Anderegg, is what's so great about the NAP productions. "It's great just to see someone that is your local nurse, or somebody's daughter up there -- it's great."
Of course, one of the most famous roles in the Wizard of Oz is that of Dorothy?s dog, Toto.
"Mary Jane Struensee approached us with an offer to use her little Yorkie, we took her up on that offer and the dog has done very well," Anderegg says.
