Lower Harvest Expected for Wisconsin Corn Farmers

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Even after making a few adjustments from the previous month, USDA officials are still expecting a lower harvest for Wisconsin corn farmers.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the National Ag Statistics Service's monthly Crop Production report says corn production is forecast at 540 million bushels this fall.

As of September 1, experts predict that yields will average about 183 bushels per acre, down 2.0 bushels from the August 1 forecast, but up 3.0 bushels from last year. Planted acreage is estimated at 3.95 million acres.

An estimated 2.95 million of the acres planted for corn will be harvested for grain, down 50,000 acres from the previous forecast. Soybean production is forecast at 113 million bushels, down one percent from 2021.

The yield is forecast at 53.0 bushels per acre, 1.0 bushel higher than the August report, but 2.0 bushels lower than the previous growing season. Planted acreage is estimated at 2.16 million acres.

An estimated 2.13 million of the acres of beans planted will be harvested, down 90,000 acres from the previous forecast. The next crop production forecasts will be released on October 12.
